Cardiac Rehabilitation Now Available at Carlsbad Medical Center
11/30/2017
Carlsbad Medical Center is expanding its range of cardiac services to now include a cardiac rehabilitation program. The program is designed to enhance the quality of life for individuals who have experienced a cardiac event, such as a heart attack, bypass surgery, stent placement, angioplasty, heart transplant, or heart valve repair or replacement. It can also be beneficial for those who suffer from angina or chronic congestive heart failure.
Located on the third floor at Carlsbad Medical Center, the cardiac rehab area includes treadmills and other exercise equipment. During exercise sessions, patients’ cardiovascular activity is closely monitored. But cardiac rehab is more than just exercise. It is also an educational program that teaches patients how to reduce or manage the stress in their lives, recognize the warning signs of a cardiac event, reduce hypertension, maintain heart healthy nutrition and much more.
“We are pleased to be able to offer this new service to our patients, and broaden the spectrum of cardiac care available in our community,” said Dr. Amanda Ryan, D.O., interventional cardiologist and medical director of the cardiac rehabilitation program.
The Cardiac Rehab team establishes individualized programs tailored to meet a patient’s needs and capabilities. These programs are designed to maximize the heart’s strength and help patients live life more fully and confidently. The cardiovascular team includes physicians, nurses, a physical therapist/exercise physiologist, dietitian, respiratory therapist, and consulting pharmacist. Working together, the goal of the team is to create a stress-free environment, promote positive thinking, enhance a speedy recovery, and decrease fear, anxiety and depression.
“Heart, vascular and lung disease affects millions of Americans,” said Dr. Ryan. “But it is possible to lead a full and satisfying life through a better understanding of the diet, exercise and medication needed to stay healthy.”
