Wound Care
Carlsbad Medical Center offers specialized, outpatient care for non-healing wounds. The team of doctors, nurses and technicians provide treatments to promote healing of chronic wounds and help patients recover as quickly as possible.
We provide care for:
- Bone infections
- Diabetic foot and leg wounds
- Recurring wounds
- Surgical wounds
- Ulcers, including ischemic, pressure and venous stasis
- Wounds association with radiation therapy
- Other conditions such as bites, infections and more
If you have a wound that has not healed in 30 days, or a sore with increasing pain, redness, swelling, change of color or foul odor, you should be evaluated to determine if specialized help is needed.
Making an Appointment
Your physician may refer you to Carlsbad Medical Center for wound care, or you may make an appointment directly. The staff will review your health history, evaluate your wound and then create a customized treatment plan.
Your care may include:
- Invasive studies
- Debridement (removal of dead/damaged tissue)
- Advanced wound dressings
- Bioengineered tissue (grafts)
- Multi-layer compression wraps for swelling
- Total contact casting (special casts for diabetic foot ulcers)
- Vacuum-assisted closure (procedure to drain a wound, prevent infection and speed healing)
- Hyperbaric medicine (oxygen therapy) - coming soon
You play an important role in the healing process. We will show you how to care for your wound, and how to recognize early warning signs of complications; you will need to carefully follow all instructions to achieve the best outcome. We will also provide your primary care physician with updates on your care and progress.
