Carlsbad Medical Center Now Offering Wound Care
11/13/2017
Carlsbad, NM - Nearly 7 million people across the United States suffer from chronic or slow-healing wounds. Wounds fall into two categories: acute and chronic. Acute wounds are related to an accident, injury or surgery. Chronic wounds can also be related to an injury or surgery – but are most often related to a health condition, such as diabetes or vascular disease, that impedes normal healing. If a wound does not heal within a month, and requires medical intervention, it is considered a chronic or slow-healing wound.
Carlsbad Medical Center has recognized the need for quality wound care in the community, and is pleased to announce the opening of its new Wound Care Center and the arrival of wound care specialist Gary Harmon, M.D. to Carlsbad. Dr. Harmon earned his medical degree at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and completed his general surgery residency at Swedish Hospital Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. He also completed a fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at Ferguson Hospital and Clinic in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Dr. Harmon is board certified and is accepting patients by referral at the new Wound Care Center, located in the Outpatient Diagnostic Center at the front of the CMC campus.
“With the arrival of Dr. Harmon and the opening of our new Wound Care Center, we will be able to keep many patients in Carlsbad that are otherwise traveling out of town for this service,” said Cathy Hibbs, Carlsbad Medical Center CEO. “This is a service line that will continue to grow, as we will be expanding wound care in the next year with plans of offering hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy.”
