Carlsbad Medical Center plans activities for heart month
2/14/2019
February is American Heart Month, and Carlsbad Medical Center has planned activities throughout the month to help educate the community about the importance of good heart health, as well as the local cardiac care resources that are available.
“As an accredited Chest Pain Center, Carlsbad Medical Center offers a wide variety of cardiac services and a highly skilled cardiovascular care team,” says Cathy Hibbs, CEO, Carlsbad Medical Center. “Heart Month is a great opportunity to help educate our community about these services - from the ER to our cardiac catheterization lab to our cardiac rehabilitation program - and to provide helpful information about risk factors and heart attack warning signs.”
The following is a list of activities and educational opportunities planned for the month of February:
- CMC Director of Cardiopulmonary Services and Chest Pain Coordinator Deana Rogers will be the guest speaker at Community Focus on Friday, February 8 at IHOP at 7:30 a.m.
- Dr. Amanda Ryan, Interventional Cardiologist, will be the guest speaker at the Carlsbad Rotary Club on Wednesday, February 13 at the Stevens Inn at noon.
- A Senior Circle ‘Health Sense’ presentation will be held on Wednesday, February 20, at 11:30 a.m. in the CMC Private Dining Room. Several clinical professionals from CMC will be speaking about stress tests, heart attack warning signs, emergency care, cardiac catheterization, and cardiac rehabilitation. The public is welcome and a free lunch is provided.
- ‘Healthy Heart’ screenings will be held at CMC in the Private Dining Room on Friday, February 22, 8-10 am. These free screenings include blood pressure, blood glucose and cholesterol. Since it is recommended that you fast for 12 hours prior to these tests, a free, heart-healthy breakfast will be provided after your screening.
- Healthy Woman, a Carlsbad Medical Center resource, invites women of all ages to a free “Get Fit” event on Tuesday, February 26 at 6pm at Studio Fit, located at 1709 W. Church Street. Interventional Cardiologist Dr. Amanda Ryan will give a brief discussion, followed by meal prep information and a light workout that can be modified for any fitness level and ability. Please call (575) 887-4160 to register.
For more information on any of these community activities, please call CMC Marketing Director Melissa Suggs at (575) 887-4160. For more information on cardiac care and heart health resources, visit the heart care service page.
Carlsbad Medical Center and Pecos Valley Physician Group employees kicked off American Heart Month by participating in National Wear Red Day on Friday, February 1 to help raise awareness of heart disease in women.
