Carlsbad Medical Center plans activities for heart month
2/7/2018
February is American Heart Month, and Carlsbad Medical Center has planned activities throughout the month to help educate the community about the importance of good heart health, as well as the local cardiac care resources that are available.
“Cardiac care in Carlsbad has come full circle,” says Cathy Hibbs, CEO, Carlsbad Medical Center. “In 2016 with the arrival of our interventional cardiologist (Dr. Amanda Ryan) and a complete upgrade of our cardiac catheterization lab, to late 2017 with the launch of our cardiac rehabilitation program, we are now able to offer a much more broad spectrum of cardiac care right here in Carlsbad. Heart month is a chance for us to help educate our community about risk factors, heart attack warning signs, and what to do if you’re actually having a cardiac event.”
The following is a list of activities and educational opportunities planned for the month of February:
- ‘Healthy Heart’ screenings will be held at CMC in the Private Dining Room on Friday, February 9 from 7 a.m. - 9 a.m. These free screenings include blood pressure, blood glucose and cholesterol. Since it is recommended that you fast for 12 hours prior to these tests, a free, heart-healthy breakfast will be provided after your screening.
- Interventional cardiologist Dr. Amanda Ryan will provide a ‘Health Sense’ presentation for Senior Circle on Wednesday, February 14 at 11:30 a.m. in the CMC Private Dining Room. The public is welcome and a free lunch is provided.
- Healthy Woman, a Carlsbad Medical Center resource, invites the ladies of Carlsbad to a ‘Red Dress Luncheon’ on Wednesday, February 28 at noon at the Pecos River Village Conference Center. Speakers include interventional cardiologist Dr. Amanda Ryan, CMC chest pain coordinator Deana Rogers, CMC cardiac rehab director Jennifer Burk, and members of the CMC cardiac cath lab team including Cynthia Madrid and Robbie Pirtle. Advance tickets ($15) can be reserved by calling (575) 887-4160. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women program to help continue the fight against heart disease.
For more information on any of these community activities, please call CMC marketing director Melissa Suggs at (575) 887- 4160.
Carlsbad Medical Center and Pecos Valley Physician Group employees kicked off American Heart Month by participating in National Wear Red Day on Friday, February 2nd to help raise awareness of heart disease in women.
