CMC Physicians Give Back on Doctors’ Day

For the third year in a row, Carlsbad Medical Center chose a unique way to commemorate National Doctors’ Day and recognize the providers who serve the hospital. In lieu of gifts, Carlsbad Medical Center presented a check on April 2 for $6,000 to Affirming Heart Victim Services as a meaningful way to honor its medical staff.
“This donation is our way to say thank you to all of our medical staff,” said Nick Arledge, CEO of Carlsbad Medical Center. “We are grateful for their contributions, sacrifices, skills and unwavering care to the thousands of lives we touch here at CMC each year.”
Prior to the celebration, physicians on the medical staff discussed needs in the community, and decided to support Affirming Heart Victim Services, specifically for their Foundry Home Youth Shelter. Foundry Home is dedicated to providing safety, stability and support for young people between the ages of 12-17 facing homelessness, family conflict or other crises. Foundry Home offers a structured environment where youth can access essential services including shelter, meals and development of life skills, with the goal of breaking the cycle of instability to provide young people with the tools they need to build a brighter future.
The mission of the Foundry Home aligns with Carlsbad Medical Center’s commitment to addressing social determinants of health, which, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, have a major impact on people’s health, well-being and quality of life. Examples of social determinants of health include: safe housing, transportation and neighborhoods; education, job opportunities and income; access to nutritious foods and physical activity opportunities; discrimination and violence; polluted air and water; and literacy.
“We are proud to support the Affirming Heart organization and the important programs and services they provide,” said Arledge. “Working together we can help create a safer and healthier community.”
